Area Students Honored with Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards

–Several Hometown Radio area students have been recognized with Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards. Performances at Algona, Bishop Garrigan and Emmetsburg High Schools have all been nominated for the 2016-2017 school year.

Algona High School’s rendition of “The Wizard of Oz” has been named in the “Distinguished Scene” category for “Over the Rainbow”. Algona’s Anna Cox has been recognized for “Outstanding Performance in a Principal Role” for her portrayal of Dorothy. Algona High was also received Special Recognition for Community Support.

Bishop Garrigan’s performance of “Beauty and the Beast” is named for “Distinguished Scene” for the scene “Beauty and the Beast”. Bishop Garrigan’s Levi Capesius is recognized for “Outstanding Performance in a Principal Role” for his portrayal of “Beast” while Caitlin Thilges (Mrs. Potts), Sam Trainer (Maurice) and Sam Vaske (Lumiere) have all been recognized for “Special Recognition for a Performance in a Principal Role”.

Emmetsburg High Schools’ performance of “Oklahoma” received recognition in the “Distinguished Scene” category as well as receiving “Special Recognition for an Ensemble”. Emmetsburg’s Adam Berkland (Will Parker), Alexander Gray (Jud Fry) and Austin Noll (Curley McLain) all received “Special Recognition for a Performance in  a Principal Role”.

All the recipients will be recognized during the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards Ceremony June 5th at the Des Moines Civic Center.
