Kevin Smith recovering from a “massive heart attack”

Albert L. Ortega/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) — Kevin Smith is definitely counting his blessings this morning.

The 47-year-old comic, writer and director was performing his Kevin Smith Live! comedy show in Glendale, California Sunday night when he suffered what he describes as a “massive heart attack.”

“After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack,” Smith tweeted. “The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (aka “the Widow-Maker”). If I hadn’t canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground!”

The tweet’s accompanied by a selfie of a wife-eyed Smith in a hospital bed.

The left anterior descending artery, aka the LAD artery, is one of the primary arteries that supply blood to much of heart.  Because of this, a blockage in the artery can cause sudden death if not caught and treated immediately.

Smith’s had a history of weight issues, at one point weighing some 400 pounds, though he’s recently said to weigh about half that.

Smith’s films include Clerks, Dogma, Chasing Amy and Red State.  More recently he’s been directing TV, including episodes of The Goldbergs, The Flash and Supergirl.
