Making its first trip to state since 2000, the eigth-seeded Bishop Garrigan girls came up short against top ranked, back-to-back state champion Springville, 54-36. The Golden Bears dug themselves a hole early, shooting a mere four of 28 from the field in the first half and facing a 29-10 deficit heading into the locker room at intermission.
Garrigan was led by its all-time leading scorer Jenna Boelter, who dropped ten points. Springville had 19 points from senior Mikayla Nachazel, who also had nine rebounds and four assists. The Orioles will face fourth-seeded Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton Friday in the semifinals. The Bears, featuring eight seniors on the roster, finish the season 17-8.
