–Funeral arrangements are being made for long-time Algona Mayor Lynn Kueck, who passed away over the weekend at the age of 81. Current Mayor Rick Murphy took a moment to recognize Kueck during Monday’s city council meeting.

Kueck was born and raised in Algona and returned to his hometown after college to begin a teaching career that spanned 35 years. He was first elected Mayor in 1997, serving until 2008, and then was elected again in 2010, serving through 2019. Murphy says that services will be held this weekend during the annual Founder’s Day celebration.

Along with his service to the city, Kueck spent 33 years on the Board of Trustees for Iowa Lakes Community College, as the Algona Campus of Iowa Lakes bears his name. The industrial park east of Algona is also named after Kueck, as is the Lynn and Sherry Kueck Algona Betterment Fund, which was established in 2017 through the Kossuth County Community Foundation.
