DESCRIPTION:The Water’s Edge Nature Center Foundation will be hosting an open house on Sunday\, August 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Water’s Edge Nature Center to celebrate the completion of the new display. The foundation worked with McCullough Creative to design a new interactive wetland display that was installed at the nature center the first part of July. This display was made possible by the Ralph and Lavon Lindhorst Trust donated to the Water’s Edge Nature Center Foundation.

DESCRIPTION:A Hunter Education Course has been scheduled for this spring. The course will meet at the following times: Tuesday\, April 8 from 6:00-9:00 P.M.\, Thursday\, April 10 from 6:00-9:00 P.M.\, and Saturday\, April 12 from 8:00-3:00 P.M. The Tuesday and Thursday’s classes will be held at the Water’s Edge Nature Center at Smith Lake. The Saturday class will be held at the Izaak Walton League across from Smith Lake. To receive certification\, participants must attend all three sessions. The class is offered to anyone 12 years of age\, or older\, free of charge. The course will cover firearm handling and safety\, wildlife management\, ethics\, and various other topics. Live shooting will be offered as part of the class. The course is sponsored by the Kossuth County Conservation Board. Pre-registration is required for the course. Students must register online at http://events.gooutdoorsiowa.com. A manual must also be picked up at the nature center prior to the class. The deadline to register online and pick up a manual is Monday\, April 7th at 4:30 P.M. Learn the constellations and the amazing mythological stories behind them. The Star Lab can only hold about 25 people comfortably\, so you MUST preregister to reserve your space. The program will take place at 5:30 PM on Wednesday\, January 24th at the Water’s Edge Nature Center. This free public program is for adults and kids\, but is recommended for kids older than 9\, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. To reserve your space\, call 295-2138.
