–Nominations are now being accepted for the AHS Class of 1979 Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award is presented annually to recognize the outstanding contributions of a teacher, either in a single academic year or over the course of their career.

According to a release from the Algona Community School Foundation, nominees must be currently teaching in the Algona Community School District, anywhere from Kindergarten to 12th grade. Teachers can be recognized for developing new programs, personally motivating students, achieving greater professional standing and going above and beyond the job of teaching.

To nominate a teacher, please submit their name, school, grade and position/specialty along with a brief description of their accomplishments. Nomination forms can be found at www.algona.k12.ia.us and can be filled out online or printed to be mailed in later to “Class of 1979 Award”, Algona Community School Foundation, PO Box 129, Algona, Iowa 50511. Forms can be turned in by teachers, students, alumni and community members.

A committee will select the winner, to be announced in May. The award includes an engraved plaque recognition and a $200 prize.
