–A Lone Rock man was seriously injured and an Algona man was cited following a 2-vehicle accident Friday evening.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 60-year-old John Calby of Lone Rock was southbound on 90th Avenue in a 2006 Chevy Silverado just before 6:45PM Friday. While traveling in 2600 block of 90th Avenue, Calby was struck by 2010 Ford Fusion, driven by 32-year-old Justin Allen Garcia of Algona.

The accident report states that Allen told Deputies he was putting a sandwich away in his vehicle, when he crossed the centerline and collided with Calby’s truck.

Both vehicles ended up in the east ditch, where Calby’s truck rolled. He was taken by Algona EMS to Kossuth Regional Health Center with suspected serious injuries, while Garcia was uninjured. The report states that both drivers were wearing their seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Garcia was cited for driving while suspended, failure to yield half of the roadway and failure to provide proof of financial liability insurance.

Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $5,000.
