–The details surrounding a traffic accident involving a North Union School bus last week have been released by law enforcement officials in Emmet County.

According to the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, the crash was reported at 4:21 PM on Tuesday, May 2nd, with law enforcement and EMS personnel responding to the intersection of County Road A34 and N52, about 6 miles west of Ringsted.

The accident investigation showed a 2022 Bluebird School Bus, owned by the North Union District and driven by 43-year-old Travis Schueller of Armstrong, had stopped at the intersection. The bus then entered the intersection, still traveling west bound, and directly into the path of a southbound 2019 International Semi Tractor Trailer, driven by 50-year-old Billy Long of Ruthven.

The bus was struck near its center and overturned, coming to rest on its driver’s side. A pair of students, ages 4 and 5, were on the bus at the time of the accident. The students were taken by Wallingford Ambulance to Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville where they were treated and released.

Schueller, who serves as Superintendent at North Union, was cited by law enforcement for Failure to Obey a Stop Sign and Yield the Right of Way.
