–The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Department made an arrest Tuesday in connection with an accident that occurred near Swea City earlier this month.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to the report of a 2-vehicle accident back on June 7th, at the intersection of Iowa Highway 9 and 110th Avenue. A white Ford Ranger was traveling north bound on 110th Avenue, when it failed to stop at the intersection with Highway 9 and struck a black 2020 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup that was pulling a livestock trailer that was eastbound on Highway 9.

Witnesses reported the driver of Ranger fled the scene on foot following the collision. A passenger in the Ram truck reported minor injuries and the Swea City Ambulance responded to the scene.

After investigating the incident for three weeks, Deputies made an arrest on Tuesday, taking 18-year-old Chase Micheal Hammond of Swea City into custody on multiple charges. Hammond is being charged with:

*Leaving the scene of a personal injury accident

*Driving with a revoked license

*Failure to have SR-22 insurance when required

*Failure to provide proof of financial liability

*Failure to transfer a title on a vehicle

*Failure to obey a stop sign

*Minor in Possession of alcohol

The Sheriff’s Office also executed subpoenas for cell phone records and requested a Geo-fencing warrant for all phones in the area at the time of the accident, along with other circumstantial evidence that the driver fled the scene. Hammond was booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance.
