Charges stem from Weekend Motorcycle Accident near Algona

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 39-year-old Joshua Allen Menssen of Laurens was eastbound on US Highway 18 aboard a2014 Harley Davidson Motorcycle, just after 8PM, when he lost control about 3 miles east of Algona. The accident report states that Menssen was traveling with a group of motorcyclists, and that he did not see the bikes in front of him beginning to slow down.

Menssen hit the brakes to avoid a collision, but lost control and crossed the centerline, where he tipped the motorcycle to its left side, ending up in the north ditch.

Both Menssen and a passenger, 35-year-old Katie Lynn Flannegan, also of Laurens, fell off the vehicle. Menssen reported only minor injuries, while Flannegan was taken to Kossuth Regional Health Center by Algona EMS, with what were described as serious injuries.s

Menssen is being charged with OWI 2nd offense, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, as well as Failure to Maintain Control and Driving without a Valid Driver’s License.

Menssen was booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance.
