–The Algona Founder’s Day Celebration officially kicked off Thursday night with the presentation of Heritage Award. This year, two people were selected for the Heritage award, as Jane Nettleton spoke about the first recipient, Mary Anna Sarazine.

Nettleton says Sarazine worked diligently to keep that group up and running.

Sarazine was honored posthumously, and was represented by family members. Renee Ruhnke introduced the 2nd award winner, Walt Reemstma.

Reemstma cracked a few jokes as he accepted the award.

The award ceremony was held at the Riverview Cemetery, prior to the Voices from the Past presentation Thursday evening.
