–The Algona Community School Foundation raised nearly $50,000 during their golf outing fundraiser this week.

According to a release from the foundation, 100 golfers took to the course at the Algona Country Club Monday (July 17), with four teams tying for top honors with a score of 53. Seventy-three different businesses or individuals sponsored advertising signs that were on display around the course.

The auction brought in over $12,000, with the highest bidding on a commemorative ratchet set and seven accompanying socket sets from Snap-On.

All of the funds raised are used to supply teachers with items that are needed in the classroom and scholarships for graduating seniors headed to college.

Since the organization was founded back in 1984, they have given out more than $1.3 million in grants for classroom improvements and over $5.3 million in college scholarships.
