–School starts up again next week, but a handful of students at Algona High School have been using the summer months to get their academics back in order. AHS Guidance Counselor Noel McLaughlin addressed the school board Monday evening to highlight the summer school program, which has been nonexistent following the pandemic.

McLaughlin teamed with AHS Dean of Students Brian Morgan to get the program back up and running this summer. He says they tried to provide an environment where students could accomplish a wide variety of tasks.

McLaughlin says communication was an important part of the success this summer.

McLaughlin says students had not earned any credits over the summer since the beginning of the pandemic.

McLaughlin told the board they are hoping this formula can be used to help more students get back on the path to graduation next summer.
