–The program that allows area seniors to correspond with elementary school students is looking to add some more members. The Northwest Iowa Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) has offices in Kossuth, Palo Alto, Emmet, Clay and Dickinson counties, and they run a Pen Pal program in each. Jolene Rogers serves as the Northwest Iowa RSVP Director, and she tells KLGA News they need volunteers all across Kossuth County.

Rogers says the Pen Pal program allows the students to share stories that are important to them and work on some important skills at the same time.

Rogers says the program wraps up each spring when the students get a chance to meet their Pen Pal.

Anyone who is age 55 or older that would like to become a Pen Pal, you can contact the RSVP Coordinator at the Iowa Lakes Community College office in your county. In Kossuth County, you can contact Rogers by calling 712-362-0431 while Palo Alto County residents can contact Kathleen Prudenz at 712-852-5236. If you have any questions, you can contact Rogers via email at [email protected].
