–The Algona City Council appointed Kathy Dearchs to fill the 3rd ward council seat that was vacated earlier this year by the resignation of Jodi Alt during their meeting on Tuesday. Dearchs spoke to the council during the meeting and talked about what made her seek the position.
Dearchs works as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Kossuth Regional Health Center, assisting both hospital patients and people who have entered Hospice Care. The council decided to fill Alt’s seat by appointment, as opposed to having a special election. The Ward 3 seat will be on the ballot in November’s City/County Election, so Dearchs will have to seek election at that time if she intends to continue serving past the end of this year.
