Fort Dodge Man Injured in ATV Accident at ABATE Park

–A Fort Dodge man had to be transported by Air Ambulance following an ATV accident at ABATE Park over the weekend.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 68-year-old Harry Summers of Fort Dodge was riding a 2002 Honda Four Track ATV at ABATE Park, northeast of Algona, Saturday afternoon. Summers was riding in the grassy and gravel area with a 2nd ATV, driven by a juvenile male.

Summers was following the 2nd ATV when it turned in front of him, causing him to swerve in an attempt to avoid a collision. Summers struck the back portion of the 2nd ATV, causing him to lose control. The ATV rolled and ended up landing on Summers.

He was taken to Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona before being flown by Mercy Air Med to an unknown hospital with what were described as serious injuries.

The juvenile driver was not injured in the accident, with damage to his ATV estimated at $200. Damage to Summers’ ATV was estimated at $2,000.
