Titonka Man Injured in Motorcycle Crash near Oak Lake

–A Kossuth County man was injured after he tried to avoid hitting an animal along Plum Creek Road and crashed his motorcycle early Monday morning.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Derick Thomas of Titonka was traveling southbound on Plum Creek Road on a 2006 Harley Davidson Motorcycle, around 4:45 AM. As Thomas approached the Oak Lake area, a raccoon ran out in front of him.

Thomas locked up the brakes trying to avoid the animal, but he ended up striking the raccoon and losing control of the motorcycle. The bike went down on its left side, skidded across the road and entered the west ditch.

Thomas suffered injuries to his hands, legs and back, and was taken by private vehicle to Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.

Damage to Thomas’ motorcycle was estimated at $2,000.
