–The Kossuth County Historical Society and Genealogical Society will team up to host a special presentation Monday night in downtown Algona. This presentation will feature slides from the county’s Centennial celebration back in 1954. Dana Clapsaddle Perry is leading the effort to preserve memories from this historic event, and she tells KLGA News they hope area residents will stop by the Wells Fargo Building tonight.
The highlight of the 1954 Centennial celebration was a parade through downtown Algona, which Perry says was nearly 4 miles long.
Perry, who grew up in Algona, has some personal reasons for preserving these events in Kossuth County’s history.
Perry says they are hoping to collect 70 memories or photos of the centennial celebrations by next July, to mark the 70th anniversary of the event. The slide presentation will begin at 5PM at the Wells Fargo Building on South Dodge Street in Algona, right next door to the Historical Society building.
