–For the second time in a week, a positive case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza has been confirmed in Kossuth County.
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the US Department of Agriculture announced Saturday the positive cases of Avian Influenza in Kossuth and Cerro Gordo counties.
State officials say the affected site in Kossuth County is a hatchery with game bird pheasants, quail and chukars. The affected site in Cerro Gordo County is a mixed species backyard flock.
With this latest announcement, the state has now seen 13 positive cases of Avian Influenza this fall, with two of them in Kossuth County. Back on November 7th, state officials announced a positive case in a flock of Game Bird Pheasants, Peafowl and Commercial Layer Chickens.
Commercial and backyard flock owners are reminded to prevent contact between their birds and wild birds. If producers suspect signs of Avian Influenza in their flocks, they should contact their veterinarian immediately. Possible cases must also be reported to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship by calling 515-281-5305.
