–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors voted to remove Roger Tjarks as Chairman of the board during their meeting Tuesday morning, following Tjarks’ assault conviction last month. Due to the city/school elections on November 7th, this was the first meeting for the board since Tjarks was found guilty on October 31st. Kossuth County resident Dennis Higgins addressed the board during their public discussion time Tuesday.
Tjarks was convicted on a misdemeanor count of assault following a 1-day trial, after he allegedly poked Supervisor Kyle Stecker in the chest and threatened him during a closed session on July 11th. Another area resident, Matt Dornbier, took time to weigh in on the matter.
After a lengthy discussion, the board voted 3-1 to remove Tjarks and appointed Stecker as the new chairman, with Tjarks voting against and Jack Plathe abstaining. The board also appointed Carter Nath as the new vice chairman on a similar vote. Court records show Tjarks will be sentenced on December 13th.
