–If you’re looking to get outdoors this weekend and enjoy the weather, the Cozy Grove Sugar Shack will be open, collecting sap and cooking it down to produce fresh maple syrup. Kossuth County Naturalist Billie Willie tells KLGA News they will have hours on both Saturday and Sunday.

Willie says the warmer weather has allowed them to get up and running a little early this year.

Willie says they typically have a short window of time each spring to collect sap to cook the syrup.

Willie also says that the dry conditions mean you won’t get muddy heading to the sugar shack like you might when the winter is more normal.

The Cozy Grove Sugar Shack will be open Saturday from 10AM-3PM and on Sunday from 1-3 PM. It’s located at the Smith Wildlife Area, about 2 miles south of Algona along HWY 169, on the east side of the highway.
