Fire Claims Life of Titonka Area Man

–A building fire at an acreage near Titonka early Sunday morning has claimed the life of a Kossuth County man.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call reported a fire at 3407 210th Avenue, about 2 miles North of Titonka, just before 4:30 AM Sunday. The female caller reported a fire in one of the outbuildings on their property that housed a workshop. She also stated that her husband had been unable to sleep and had gone to the workshop sometime before she woke up.

Titonka Fire and EMS were paged to the scene, where they found the building completely engulfed by flames when they arrived. Emergency personnel determined that one person was inside the building, and later found the body of 45-year-old Brian Leroy Janssen.

The State Fire Marshall’s Office has been contacted to help determine the cause of the fire. The State Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine an official cause of death.

Titonka Fire and EMS were assisted at the scene by the Bancroft Fire Department, Kossuth County Emergency Management, the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office and Medical Examiner, along with the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
