–Cleanup continues across the area after more than 5-inches of rain fell in parts of Kossuth County, sending water into homes and causing major headaches for homeowners. Algona Deputy City Administrator Barb Smith tells KLGA News the deluge did cause some sewer backups into homes.

Smith says city crews have been working around the clock to try and alleviate pressure on the sewer system.

As work continues to try and undo the damage caused by this week’s storms, Smith says the city will offer a special cleanup day on Tuesday, May 28th.

The heaviest rain totals have been reported along a line from Algona to Wesley, with reports topping over 5-inches. Emergency Management officials from multiple counties were in the area Tuesday, assisting residents in their efforts to get the water out of their homes and communities. The storms also damaged roads across the area, and residents are reminded not to remove or drive around any barricades that may be posted to indicate a road closure. Kossuth and Palo Alto counties were included in a disaster declaration signed by Governor Kim Reynolds on Tuesday, making state resources available to residents who need assistance with their cleanup efforts.
