–The Kossuth/Palo Alto County Economic Development Corporation officially kicked off their Summer Internship program Wednesday with their annual Intern Breakfast in Algona. Alison Van Otterloo is the Senior Vice President for Underwriting and Risk Assessment at Pharmacists Mutual in Algona, and she served as the keynote speaker for the event. Van Otterloo spoke with KLGA News following her presentation.

Van Otterloo was involved in the very first summer intern group back in 1999, and she says the opportunities for growth and learning available to these interns have increased dramatically over the last 25 years.

Van Otterloo says much of the learning these interns do will translate to any occupation they may choose to pursue.

Back in 1999, Van Otterloo interned as a bank teller in Algona, and she says the experience came in handy a few years down the road.

While learning from area business leaders over the next couple of months, the interns will also be involved in service projects to benefit the residents of Kossuth and Palo Alto counties.
