Two Injured in House Explosion Near Ottosen

–An investigation is underway after an explosion injured two people at a rural residence in Southwestern Kossuth County Monday morning.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency personnel received a call just after 9AM reporting a house explosion at 606 110th Street, about 2 miles Northeast of Ottosen. The caller advised there was debris all over the acreage and roadway from what appeared to be an explosion.

Upon arrival, it was determined that two of the three known occupants of the residence were home at the time. First responders were able to locate 44-year-old Catherine Fleischhacker within the west side of the residence, under a pile of debris. Once Fire and EMS personnel removed her from the home, Fleischhacker was initially transported to Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona before being taken by Life Flight to MercyOne Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City

21-year-old Brett Lanning was also home at the time of the explosion. He was able to free himself from the debris and was taken by West Bend EMS to the Humboldt County Hospital to determine possible injuries.

The State Fire Marshall’s Office has been contacted to assist with the investigation. Kossuth County and Humboldt County Emergency Management, along with the West Bend Police Department and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office also assisted as the scene.
