–An Algona man who’s accused of violating the terms of his pretrial release was taken into custody earlier this week and is now looking to change his plea in the case.
According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies conducted a welfare check just after 9 PM Tuesday and arrested 31-year-old Wesley Scott Popejoy on a valid warrant.
Online court records show Popejoy was arrested back in April and charged with 2 counts of Extortion, a Class D Felony, and 2 counts of 1st Degree Harassment, an Aggravated Misdemeanor. In August, Prosecutors filed an application to revoke Popejoy’s pre-trial release, and a bench warrant was issued at that time.
Court records filed this week indicate that Popejoy intends to waive his right to a trial and will change his plea to guilty. He is scheduled to have a plea hearing in Kossuth County District Court on January 6th.
