–Iowa Lakes Community College will once again be offering a pair of different courses over the spring semester as a part of their Stay Active in Learning, or SAIL program. Dr. Kella Klinker-Simonin helps select the courses each semester for Iowa Lakes, and she tells KLGA News the first offering is entitled “Origin of Civilization”.

The lectures feature the work of Dr. Scott Menachem, exploring archaeology’s revelations about humanity’s earliest civilizations. Simonin will lead the 2nd course herself, which will be a film course focusing on the works of legendary director Blake Edwards.

The courses are designed to be a fun way for some older residents and non-traditional students to stay active and learn a few things in a non-formal environment. Simonin says they work hard to keep costs down to enroll in these courses.

The Origins of Civilization course will begin on January 13th, while the Blake Edwards class will start on the 15th. The classes are held on the Spencer campus of Iowa Lakes and run from 9-11:30 AM. You can register online at www.ce.iowalakes.edu.
