–While the calendar reads mid-January, the National Weather Service office in Des Moines is preparing now for the storms that accompany warmer weather in the spring and summer with training sessions for storm spotters. Meteorologist Andrew Ansorge tells KLGA News that they will begin training storm spotters across the state next month.

A storm spotter training session is scheduled to be held in Kossuth County on Wednesday, February 5th.

Peak severe weather season is still a few months away, but Ansorge says that doesn’t mean storms don’t occur before spring.

Anyone interested in becoming a trained storm spotter can come out to the Kossuth County event on February 5th, as there is no preregistration required, and the training is free of charge. You can find out more by going to www.weather.gov/dmx/stormspotting.
