Girls Wrestling
The Algona girls wrestling team competed at the day 2 of the IGHSAU state tournament Friday in Coralville, with Mara Davis, Malyn Davis, and Reagan Jensen having already clinched state medals, and seeing how high they could climb on the medal stand.
On Friday, Mara Davis picked up a win by tech fall over Jazz Christensen of SWAT at 100 pounds, then was pinned in 0:34 in the consolation semis by Chloe Sheffield of Decorah during the morning session. In the evening session, Davis would wrestle for 5th place, and defeat Audrey Cummings of Wilton by a 10-3 decision, as Davis finishes her sophomore campaign with a 38-10 record and 5th place state medal.
At 120 pounds, Malyn Davis was defeated by an 11-4 decision against Keston Spratt of Williamsburg. Davis would then win the 7th place match over Lillian Gaiser of Lisbon, picking up a fall in 3:57, wrapping up her senior season with a 34-10 record and a 7th place state medal.
At 155 pounds, Reagan Jensen was defeated by 3-1 decision against Ryley Marcum of Missouri Valley, but Jensen would bounce back in the 7th place match, winning by fall in 2:44 over Lucy Kohnen from Manson-NW Webster, ending her season with a 7th place state medal and 36-10 record.
