Swea City Man Charged Following Report of Domestic Disturbance

–A Swea City man has been taken into custody on multiple charges, including a pair of felonies, following an investigation of a reported disturbance last week.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to the report of a disturbance involving an intoxicated person who may be armed around 5:45 AM on Thursday, February 20th. The disturbance had occurred earlier that morning in the 100 block of 2nd Avenue West in Swea City. Upon arrival, Deputies identified the suspect as 38-year-old Michael Hammond, who lives at 106 2nd Ave. West in Swea City.

During the course of their investigation, Deputies determined that a firearm had been discharged during the early morning incident on February 20th. As a result, Deputies obtained a search warrant for Hammond’s residence and an arrest warrant for Hammond after learning of an alleged assault.

Hammond was arrested Monday and charged with:

–Going Armed with Intent (Class D Felony)

–Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon (Class D Felony)

–Domestic Assault while Displaying a Weapon (Aggravated Misdemeanor)

–Domestic Assault 2nd Offense (Aggravated Misdemeanor)

He was booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance. A no contact order has also been issued to prevent Hammond from having any contact with the alleged victim in the case.
