–The Algona Municipal Utilities Board of Trustees approved a slight increase in water rates for residential and business customers during their meeting on Wednesday. AMU General Manager John Bilsten tells KLGA News that residents will see these increases in the coming months.

The increase will help offset the costs of a couple of improvement projects planned for 2025, including water main replacement work along Thorington Street in downtown Algona.

Bilsten says these improvements help reduce the amount of water that is unaccounted for in the distribution system.

Along with the water main replacement projects, Bilsten says they will construct a new backwash detention pond.

While the average residential customer will see an average increase of around $3.40/month, many business customers will see a slightly larger increase simply due to their higher water consumption rates. Anyone with questions about the new water rates can contact AMU by calling 515-295-3584 or go online to www.netamu.com.
