The Iowa Utilities Commission heard comments from Alliant Energy and citizens during an informational meeting on Thursday afternoon in Lakota. Alliant Energy filed a petition to create a 60-megawatt battery storage system that would be located in Lakota next to their Gold Plains location. Alliant Energy’s Lead Developer of the proposed project, Amanda Kessler, spoke to the crowd to discuss what the storage facility would do.
After the project was displayed, IUC representatives made the decision that the project would go forward in the certification process, meeting all the guidelines to do so. Kossuth County Engineer Doug Miller asked about the timeline of the project. Representatives say it could be done within a year. Another member in the crowd asked whether or not this project would save people money, to which a part of Alliant’s legal staff responded.
The project would be located next to the current Gold Plains operation in Lakota.
