–The Algona City Council hosted a public hearing on the proposed property tax levy for the coming fiscal year prior to their meeting on Monday. City Administrator Jacob Tjaden tells KLGA News that property owners may have been confused by recent mailings that show a double-digit property tax increase.
Tjaden says while property assessment values have increased dramatically over the last few years, tax collections have been relatively flat.
The slight increase in tax revenue will be used to try and offset higher costs.
The council heard from one area resident during the public hearing, who raised concerns about the increase in property assessments. During their regular session Monday, the council set April 21st as the date for the public hearing on the city’s proposed budget for the coming fiscal year.
