–The 2nd suspect wanted in connection with a Kossuth County grandparent scam case back in February has been arrested and is in local custody.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Carlos Garrido Guzman of Homestead, Florida was arrested on Friday, April 11th in Miami, Florida and was extradited back to Kossuth County on Wednesday (April 16). A nationwide warrant had been issued for Guzman after law enforcement was unable to find him during the arrest of 33-year-old Eddie Benitez, another suspect in the case.

Benitez, who is also from south Florida, was arrested on February 27th at a hotel in Humboldt after law enforcement agencies from multiple counties tracked his location.

Both Guzman and Benitez are charged with 1st Degree Theft in Kossuth County and being held on a $75,000 cash bond. The Florida pair are also being held on warrants from other law enforcement agencies after allegedly perpetrating scams in those jurisdictions.

The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office reminds area residents to use extreme caution if you are contacted over the phone by someone you don’t know that is trying to convince you to pay them to help a loved one or stay out of trouble. If you are contacted in this manner, you are asked to contact your local law enforcement agency.
