The launch of the Bishop Garrigan Athletics Hall of Fame is now officially in motion, as the school announced the initiative this week on social media.

John Kesselring, who is one of the eight board members who will oversee the nomination and selection process, tells KLGA the time was overdue to honor some of the greatest athletes, teams, and coaches in Bishop Garrigan’s rich sports history.

The other board members include coaches, community members, alumni, and administrators of Bishop Garrigan.  Joining Kesselring on the board are Rob Meister, Brian Patterson, Alison Rosenmeyer, Christy Peterson, Brandon Schwab, Tom Geelan, and Jack Burns.

The athletics hall of fame will serve as a way to highlight the people who have made an impact on the school’s athletic legacy over its 65 year history.

According to Kesselring, the initial discussions about creating a hall of fame kicked into high gear about a year ago.

The inaugural class is set to feature eight inductees, as nominations are currently being taken.  The plans for the hall of fame class include an induction ceremony on Thursday, August 28th, with the first home football game on August 29th serving as the “hall of fame game” where the inductees will be further honored.

The plans going forward are to have the hall of fame induction ceremony take place on the Thursday before the first home football game every season, with the “hall of fame game” becoming annual occurrence.

The board is currently considering the eligibility guidelines for inductees.  Kesselring says a 10-15 year window after graduation is being looked at, but isn’t set in stone until the board has a chance to have further discussions.

Kesselring outlined the qualifications the board will consider while sorting through nominees.

The nomination deadline for the 2025 class is approaching, but nominations will always be open for future years.
