–A Burt man is facing weapons charges following the report of possible gunshots early Saturday morning.

According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies received a report of possible gunshots being fired around the Plum Creek pits. Upon arrival, Deputies located a campsite on the east side of the pits and encountered a male who was in possession of a firearm.

At first, the individual did not comply with a lawful order from the Deputy, and officers from the Algona Police Department were called to assist. The male was identified and eventually complied with officers, who took possession of the firearm and arrested 37-year-old Chris Smith of Burt.

Smith was charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon while Intoxicated, a Serious Misdemeanor, as well as Public Intoxication and Interference with Official Acts, both simple misdemeanors.
