–The Algona School Board approved a couple of fee changes for the 2025-2026 school year during their meeting Monday evening. Superintendent Joe Carter addressed the board and talked about the proposed changes, which include an increase in the monthly price for 3-year-old Preschool students.

The cost of 3-year-old Preschool will go from $60/month to $75/month. The state of Iowa covers the costs of providing 4-year-old preschool to children across the state, but the 3-year-old program is funded solely by the school. Carter says they are also looking at a slight increase in meal prices for students and guests.

Students in grades 5-8 will pay $2.95 for lunch this coming year. The 10-cent increase will also apply to breakfast, meaning students in grades K-4 will pay $1.90 to eat before school, and students in grades 5-12 will be charged $2.10. Registration costs will stay at $55 for K-12 students. The topic of providing an activity pass for each student free of charge, something other districts across the state are doing, was also discussed when the board was discussing student fees. While no decision was made, the board did agree to continue the discussion at future meetings.
