–US Highway 18 is now closed west of Whittemore as a road construction project has begun in Palo Alto County, while work on Highway 18 east of Algona begins Tuesday (7/8)
The Iowa Department of Transportation has a detour in place on Highway 18 that will take traffic around the construction area to the north. Westbound traffic on Highway 18 will turn north at the intersection with Iowa Highway 15, before turning back to the west on County Road B20. From there, traffic will continue west until turning south on County Road N60. Vehicles will turn to the west again at 370th Street, just northeast of Cylinder, and continue on that road until it joins Highway 18.
Eastbound traffic will leave Highway 18 at the curve north of Cylinder and take 370th Street to N60, go North on N60 to B20, east on B20 to Highway 15 and then south again to Highway 18.
That detour will be in place through the end of August.
East of Algona, work will begin this week in the Sexton area, which will cause intermittent lane closures through the beginning of August.
