–A Northwest Iowa man was killed as the result of a three-vehicle accident over the weekend in rural Winnebago County.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 21-year-old David Raak of Spirit Lake was westbound on Iowa Highway 9 aboard a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle around 4 PM Saturday. Raak was traveling with another motorcycle, this one a 2010 Harley Davidson driven by 64-year-old Daniel Raak, also of Spirit Lake.

As the motorcycles approached the intersection with 150th Avenue, about 4 miles east of Thompson, they encountered a 2015 Buick Encore, driven by 95-year-old LeRoy Weaver of Buffalo Center.

The accident report states that Weaver crossed the center line and hit David Raak’s motorcycle head on and sideswiping Daniel Raak. David Raak and a passenger were ejected off of the motorcycle, while Weaver’s vehicle entered the north ditch before stopping in a field.

All involved were taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, where David Raak was pronounced dead.

The accident remains under investigation.
