–The 125th National Hobo Convention officially kicks off Thursday in Britt, bringing in visitors from all across the country. Bill Friedow is a member of the Hobo Days Committee and serves as the caretaker at the National Hobo Museum, and he tells KLGA News everything starts with the fire lighting ceremony at the Hobo jungle.
Friday and Saturday are full of activities, with a memorial service Friday morning at the Hobo Cemetery for those who have caught the westbound. Friedow says some of the Hobos have been in town for a couple weeks already, some of them part of a new generation and some who have been coming to Britt for decades.
Friedow, who was dubbed as an honorary hobo last year, says the museum will be open special hours through the weekend.
Some of the weekend highlights include:
–The Beard competition Friday at 6:30 PM on the Veteran’s Park Stage
–The parade Saturday at 10 AM along Main Street
–Free Mulligan Stew in City Park following the Parade Saturday
–Crowning of the Hobo King and Queen in City Park Saturday at 1 PM.
