–The Algona City Council approved a grant application to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Traffic Safety Improvement Program during their meeting this week. Matt Cole with Bolton & Menk addressed the council during their meeting Monday and says they have completed a traffic study of the intersections in question.

That traffic study was needed to apply for the TSIP funding to upgrade the safety controls at these intersections. Cole says issues at the Call Street intersection caused problems for motorists on a regular basis.

Cole says they will now apply for the grant funding through the DOT to upgrade the traffic signals at these intersections, which includes putting a camera at the Call Street intersection with Highway 169.

Some adjustments are also planned for the intersection of State Street and Jones Street.

The DOT will award funds through the TSIP program in January, so if approved, the city could begin work on these traffic control devices in the summer of 2026.
