–The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors held a lengthy and at times contentious public hearing Tuesday, taking comments on drainage issues. Landowners in drainage district 4 petitioned the board asking for explanations as to why the county has added additional taxes levied over the last couple of years, each totaling over six figures. Supervisor Kyle Stecker was unable to attend Tuesday’s meeting in person, but had a prepared statement read by Chairman Carter Nath. In the statement, Stecker apologized to the landowners for mistakes made at the county level when compiling drainage assessments over the last decade.

His statement went on to say that further discussion of these assessments will not be able to change the situation.

Stecker also believes that the county needs specific policies for producing their drainage assessments each year.

County Auditor Tammy Eden went through assessments dating back over a decade during the hearing.

The board took comments for over an hour before ending the hearing with the matter unresolved.
