–A Fenton man is facing a felony charge after allegedly injuring a child over the weekend.
According to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies were asked to assist the Department of Human Services with an investigation in Fenton Monday, after receiving reports that 33-year-old Allen Michael Smith had assaulted his son.
A criminal complaint filed in Kossuth County District Court states that Smith had thrown a plate at his son, causing bleeding and a large cut. DHS officials conducted interviews at the North Union Elementary School near Fenton before asking for assistance from law enforcement to go and speak with Smith.
The criminal complaint alleges that Smith admitted to Deputies and DHS officials that he got mad, threw a plate at the child and blacked out. He also quickly came up with a story saying that the child had fallen while jumping on the bed and hit their head.
Smith was arrested on charges of Child Endangerment causing Bodily Injury, a Class D Felony and Possession of a Controlled Substance after a Marijuana vape was found in his residence.
Smith was booked into the Kossuth County Jail to await an initial court appearance. He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in Kossuth County District Court on Friday, September 19th.
