–Former Iowa Senator Tom Harkin will be the featured speaker at an event next Sunday afternoon at the Wilcox Performing Arts Center in Algona. Josh Manske helped to organize a recent Chautauqua Talk that brought former Iowa Governor and US Ambassador to China Terry Branstad to town in June, and he tells KLGA News they were happy with how that first event turned out.

Manske says they’re excited to have the five-term Senator come to speak next Sunday.

Harkin was first elected to the Senate in 1984, and he served all the way through 2014. These days he keeps busy through various activities.

Manske says this event will feature a little different format than their chat with Governor Branstad back in June.

The Chautauqua Talk is scheduled for Sunday, October 19th at 2 PM inside the Wilcox Performing Arts Center in Algona. It is free to attend and open to the public. The Chautauqua movement gained steam in the 19th and 20th centuries and is described as a cultural phenomenon that brought lectures, music, and drama to rural communities across the country.
