–The Algona Community School District is down nearly 30 students from a year ago as enrollment figures will be certified this week. Superintendent Joe Carter presented the figures to the school board during their meeting on Monday night.
While a total of 1419 students is down from a year ago, total enrollment in the district is up nearly 150 students from 2020. Carter says part of the jump in enrollment over the last 5 years is due to the merger with the LuVerne district in 2023.
The number of students who open enroll out of the district has gone up since the merger with LuVerne, from 88 in 2022 to 135 this year.
Certified enrollment figures are used to determine per pupil funding from the state each year.
