–The Algona School Board discussed the district’s official certified enrollment during their meeting Monday evening. Superintendent Joe Carter presented the numbers that were certified on October 15th and drive state funding for the coming year.

Carter says they are cautiously optimistic that the numbers will go up when they’re certified next year.

Part of the certified enrollment shows how many students in the school district attend a private school and have a state-funded Educational Savings Account.

Carter says his biggest concern with ESA’s is not losing kids to private schools, it’s more about state funding increases hovering around 2% over the last 10-15 years.

The drop in certified enrollment means the Algona district will have less money to work with in their budget for the 2026-2027 school year.
