–The Algona City Council approved a pair of agreements this week to cover the costs of sending two police officers to become certified. City Administrator Jacob Tjaden outlined the agreements prior to their approval during the council meeting Monday night.
Tjaden says the agreement means the city will cover all the costs for the officers to attend the academy and receive their certification.
All told, it will cost around $45,000 to have an officer attend the 16-week course at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.
Each officer has a year from the date they were hired to complete the certification course.
