–Alliant Energy is trying to reach an agreement with Kossuth County to keep an energy storage project near Lakota on track. The proposed Golden Plains Battery Energy Storage System would store energy produced by the Golden Plains Wind Farm in northern Kossuth and Winnebago counties. Amanda Kesler is a Senior Renewables Development Specialist with Alliant, and she addressed the Board of Supervisors during their meeting on Tuesday. Kesler says the company presented the project to Kossuth County’s Board of Adjustment last month.
The Iowa Utilities Commission approved the project this fall, but Alliant still needs local approval before work can begin. Supervisor Carter Nath responded to Kesler’s comments.
Kesler believes the board of adjustment could have asked for clarification before making a decision on the permit application.
The supervisors will revisit the issue at their meeting on January 13th when they can receive advice from legal counsel as to what options may or may not be available to them.
