Bishop Garrigan 61
St. Edmond 59

The class 1A #4 ranked Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears toppled the #1 ranked St. Edmond Gaels by a final score of 61-59 in a rematch of last year’s substate game, as Bishop Garrigan withstood four shot attempts on the final St. Edmond possession to hang on for their 12th win in a row.

The game stayed close throughout, with neither team leading by more than eight at any point.  Bishop Garrigan lead 19-15 after one quarter, 32-31 at the half, and 53-48 at the end of the third, following a buzzer beating shot by Madden Miller to send the game into the final quarter.

After an and-one by Tate Foertsch with 3:44 left, Bishop Garrigan was ahead 61-55, and would not score for the rest of the game, but used their defense to hang on in the end.

Foertsch would score 16 points, hitting 3 of his 4 three point attempts, while Michael Joyce added 16 for the Golden Bears, hitting 4 of his 7 threes, marking the junior’s 6th straight game scoring at least 14 points.  Bishop Garrigan finished the night an efficient 9/17 from 3 point land.  Amaury Thomas had 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Carter Schwab scored 11.

Hunter Horn had 27 in the loss for St. Edmond, while Jack McElroy added 13, and Jakob Koopman scored 10.

It’s the first time St. Edmond has lost to a fellow class 1A team in the regular season since December 21st of 2023, which was the last time Bishop Garrigan defeated the Gaels prior to yesterday. The Golden Bears move to 13-1 while the Gaels fall to 10-2.
