–Two different levels of the band program for the Algona Community School District have been selected to perform at the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference in May.
The Algona Middle School’s 6th grade band program was selected along with the Algona High School band. The 6th grade band is the only ensemble of its grade level in the entire state selected to perform, while the High School Band was selected from entries at the Class 3A level.
Selections are based off of recordings that are submitted blindly in December. Performing at the IBA conference is considered the highest honor a school’s concert band can receive in the state.
A year ago, Algona’s 7th/8th grade band was selected to perform at this same event.
The bands will perform May 14-16 at the IBA Conference, which will be held at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Des Moines. Specific performance times will be announced as the conference schedule is finalized later this spring.
